While editing for a client recently, I noticed the incorrect use of “pour”. I realized this might be another good topic for a difference between post.
Pour is a verb, and it refers to the act of causing something to flow in a steady stream from one place to another (e.g. Let me pour you a refreshing glass of lemonade.).
Pore, on the other hand, can be a noun or a verb, depending on the context. As a noun, it refers to the little holes in our skin. As a verb, it refers to the act of reading or studying attentively (I am poring over this 300-year-old document looking for a clue.).
I hope that clears things up.
