Earlier this week, I announced a new blog series called Stump the Social Media Guy.
The idea for Stump the Social Media Guy is that business owners will submit a request to have me give them a tip for engaging their social media audience. Any businesses I use for the series will have their name listed and the post will include a link to their social media profiles and their website.
I didn’t receive any responses looking for tips, so I decided to start it off with a tip I recently gave to a local hair styling business. Normally, I would link the company name at this point, but it wasn’t a submitted suggestion. :)
One way for a hair styling company to engage with their social media audience is to share photos of their clients’ new hair styles.
Each time you finish with a customer, ask if you can take their photo and put it on their Facebook page (or Instagram account, or Pinterest, or Google+ account, etc). This will do several things to increase engagement:
- It will drive those customers to your social media page
- Those customers will share their photo with their friends
- Your social media audience will see the type of work you do
- It will start conversation around people asking if you can do that for them but with slight changes
If you liked this tip, please share it with others. If you want your business to featured in the next installment of Stump the Social Media Guy, post your business type and name in the comments below, on my Facebook page, on my Twitter feed, or send me an email.

Hi Kim! I’m very surprised you didn’t receive any responses, though sometimes these sorts of things can take time to get noticed and get participation.
This is a fantastic tip for a hair stylist business! I’m actually going to suggest it the next time I get my hair cut (next week).
Here’s one for you: how can accountants and bookkeepers better utilize Social Media?
By the way, I’m not seeing an easy an obvious way to share your posts on Social Media. It took me a while to see the icons at the very bottom of the page under ‘recent posts’. You should put some sharing options at the top or bottom of blog posts. :)
Kevin,
Here is your post:

Thanks for the suggestion. :)
You can find the social share buttons at the end of each post, right before the comments.
