Either people aren’t reading my most recent post about Canada being able to support a third web development conference, or they really do think Canada can support a third one.
If that’s true, then we should probably know where the most preferred location would be. As a result, I have developed this poll:
The poll will remain open until we have sufficient responses to make the consensus obvious.
UPDATE (03 Jan 2006): This post was listed on digg.com. Digg it.
Given the options available, I had to choose Toronto because it is closer and therefore more affordable for me but Ottawa would have been a reasonable option too.
I was contemplating adding Ottawa (I was thinking only of you Jules), but I decided to keep it to one city per province.
I second Ottawa only because I live there, too. :)
Yeah, I was thinking of you too Jonathan. :-)
At TOEvolt.org, I met Jason who works in Kingston: he might also be interested in this conference. I will try to contact him.
Ottawa is not a bad idea — the national capital and all. Plus bars across the river are open ’til wee hours of the morn.
Winterpeg is actually not a bad choice but for the cost. It is much cheaper to fly to TO or Calgary than Winnepeg. The other advantage of TO is that Accommodations can be less expensive (economy of scale) so long as you aren’t having it during film festival time, first two weeks of September.
I think I would like to know also what type of conference you are all looking for? I posted on my blog (http://www.smashingred.com/blog/) that I had a particular vision for the conference and to make it clear my focus is not on the “New Media” aspect of the web.
I am much more business oriented. I would rather learn and discuss web development, design and application as a whole and its relationship with business because if it isn’t serving a purpose or clients it isn’t worth doing.
Emerging applications, frameworks, existing technology, standards, trends, and trend breakers, usability, marketing integration are just a few of the topics that could be engaged at such a conference.
Ottawa’s a decent choice, Quebec City would be cool too, it has a very European feel to it. I’m in Kingston, so Toronto, Ottawa and Monreal are all equidistant.
No dice. Do Calgary. *nod*
Vancouver. It’s pretty and beautiful and such. Make sure it is during the summer though. Rain sucks hard.
I voted for Vancouver since it’s the nearest to me. I am also planning to attend NorthernVoice2006 in February in Vancouver to see if I can meet new people there.
